The commoditization of LLMs is indeed an existential threat to OpenAI. If the Ghibligate is a diversion tactic from OpenAI (see Stephen Klein's interesting hypothesis below), it would only offer a temporary respite.
We can expect most LLMs to have similar capabilities soon…
